It is that time of the year to kickstart earning the State Seal of Civic Engagement.
The California State Seal of Civic Engagement, marked by a gold seal on the diploma or transcript, recognizes high school graduates who have demonstrated an understanding of civic knowledge; civic skills and action; quality student reflection; and student civic mindedness.
To qualify for the State Seal of Civic Engagement, California high school students in their junior and senior years must meet these criteria:
- Be engaged in academic work in a productive way;
- Demonstrate a competent understanding of U.S. and California constitutions; functions and governance of local governments; tribal government structures and organizations; the role of the citizen in a constitutional democracy; and democratic principles, concepts, and processes;
- Participate in one or more informed civic engagement project(s) that address real-world problems and require students to identify and inquire into civic needs or problems, consider varied responses, take action, and reflect on efforts;
- Demonstrate civic knowledge, skills, and dispositions through self-reflection; and
- Exhibit character traits that reflect civic-mindedness and a commitment to positively impact the classroom, school, community and/or society.

- State Seal of Civic Engagement Interest FORM - This is to gather initial interest in students who may want to apply for the seal at Creekside and IVA. Fill this out NOW if you are a student interested! Mr. Chabot will reach out for the first conference to set up a game plan
- State Seal of Civic Engagement Application Form -This will be released for students to submit their evidence for meeting the 5 criteria once the civic action project is complete. The SSCE mentor (Mr. Chabot) will review the evidence at Zoom conferences after school with students to determine progress towards completion of the requirements and offer support
- Project Deadline - The project needs to be completed by May 16, 2025, a seal will then be requested to be affixed to the student diploma.
